The Grossmont Foothillers will face off against the La Jolla Country Day Torreys at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The pair might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran up and down the field in their prior games.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Grossmont walked away with it. They took down the Buccaneers 30-14 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Grossmont.
Isaac Aceves had a dynamite game for Grossmont, rushing for 244 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry. Hudson Herber was another key contributor, throwing for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
Grossmont's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB 3.5 times. In that department, Jacob Suter was the leader with two sacks.
Meanwhile, La Jolla Country Day had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They won a game that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Fallbrook 39-38. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Jaden Mangini was his usual excellent self, throwing for 281 yards and five touchdowns, while also rushing for 82 yards. Quentin Cesaire also helped out with an impressive 93 receiving yards.
Grossmont is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for La Jolla Country Day, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.
