Baseball Recap: Palmyra Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Palmyra waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Highland Cougars with a sharp 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Rylan Compton made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. Compton was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Palmyra is 4-1 when Compton posts two or more runs, but 2-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cade Lehman, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Palmyra's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Bryant Horstmeier, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Palmyra was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

The victory got Palmyra back to even at 6-6. As for Highland, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Palmyra will face off against Mexico at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Highland, they will square off against Knox County at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
