Baseball Recap: Canyon Springs' Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Canyon Springs made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Sunrise Mountain, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Everything went the Canyon Springs Pioneers' way against the Sunrise Mountain Miners on Wednesday as the Canyon Springs Pioneers made off with a 17-1 win. Considering the Pioneers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Cruz Monroy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Monroy was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Isaiah Rogers was a standout: he scored four runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenny Castro, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Canyon Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

With the victory, Canyon Springs broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-4. As for Sunrise Mountain, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon Springs will be taking part in a tournament against Cheyenne at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sunrise Mountain, they are taking a road trip to face off against Mojave at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Sunrise Mountain is facing Mojave at the right time seeing as Mojave is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
