The Putnam County War Eagles came tearing into Friday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Glenn Hills 46-29. Given Putnam County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while Glenn Hills is ranked 239th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Putnam County was led to victory by Journey Waller and Kamyra Aikens. Waller scored 11 points along with five steals, while Aikens scored 12 points along with five steals. Waller has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of A?ziyah Williams, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Putnam County's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 30 points. As for Glenn Hills, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season.
Putnam County won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Thomson at 6:00 p.m. on January 13th. Thomson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Putnam County likes a good challenge. As for Glenn Hills, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Washington County at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Washington County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Saturday.
