4A Region IV District 31 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Nixon was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in 4A Region IV District 31. The Mustangs beat Zapata 45-14 earlier in the week.
Miller moved up to 756 from 905 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league.
Nixon's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ralph Perez threw for 288 and five touchdowns and Matias Villanueva had 81 yards receiving. On the ground Richie Rendon chipped in 76 yards. Rendon helped Nixon's passing attack out by catching three balls for 58 yards.
Ray's Marcus Mosley and Ben Brooks have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Mosley has thrown for 762 yards this season, while Brooks has 14 catches for 271 yards. Oscar Resendez from Alice leads the league in rushing with 294 yards.
A big matchup in 4A Region IV District 31 this week will be when Flour Bluff takes on the Coyotes. At the moment, the Hornets are in first, while Alice is in fifth.
Tommy Ramirez's team took down the Hawks 45-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Perez ran for 17 yards in the win.
