The South Harrison Hawks will be playing at home against the Wirt County Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though South Harrison has not done well against Braxton County recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. South Harrison sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-43 win over Braxton County. The victory was just what South Harrison needed coming off of a 67-34 defeat in their prior matchup.
South Harrison found their leader in underclassman Adalee Wright, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Halle Bland, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wirt County escaped with a win on Friday against Wahama by the margin of a single free throw, 43-42. Given Wirt County's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Wahama is ranked 475th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Harrison has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. As for Wirt County, they pushed their record up to 9-10 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
