The Muhlenberg Muhls will face off against the Wilson Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Muhlenberg 3.8, Wilson 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Last Wednesday, Muhlenberg didn't have quite enough to beat Daniel Boone and fell 5-4.
Cole Moody was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Lincoln High was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Wilson posted their closest win since April 17, 2024 on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Emmaus 6-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.
Jack Gabel was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-6. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Marmolejos, who scored two runs while going 4-for-6. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Christo Hunsicker, who scored a run while going 2-for-6.
Wilson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Emmaus only managed nine hits.
Wilson pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Muhlenberg, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Muhlenberg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wilson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Muhlenberg skirted past Wilson 3-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Muhls repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
