If the Cordova Blue Devils were riding high off their 47-23 takedown of the Curry Yellowjackets last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cordova fell 51-41 to Dora on Friday. If Cordova hoped to take revenge for the 53-42 loss against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
When it comes to explaining why Cordova lost, one person who can't be blamed is Shyla Armstead. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Armstead has scored all season. Ella Grace Madison was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.
Dora's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bella Reese, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. Reese is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyria Meadows, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Cordova's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6. As for Dora, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-4.
Cordova will be playing in front of their home fans against Curry at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Curry will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 333rd, while Cordova is ranked 155th). Dora will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Carbon Hill at 3:00 p.m. on January 20th. Carbon Hill is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
