The Leon Lions will square off against the Chiles Timberwolves at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Leon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Leon after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Marianna by a score of 4-3.
Brady Brown was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March.
On the hitting side, Leon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evans Franco, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Chiles had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Seminoles by a score of 7-4.
Colton Corder tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Preston Ritchie was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Lawson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Chiles' record now sits at 20-4. As for Leon, they now have a losing record of 12-13.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Leon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Chiles struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Leon suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to Chiles in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
