The Chapel Hill Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by Tri-Cities on the road and fell 72-38. While losing is never fun, Chapel Hill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 353rd, while Tri-Cities is ranked 169th).
Despite the defeat, Chapel Hill saw an underclassman step up: Emahni Chambliss scored 27 points along with 5 rebounds. The game was Chambliss' sixth in a row with at least ten points.
Even though they lost, Chapel Hill were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tri-Cities only pulled down 34.
Tri-Cities got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alyssia Bandele out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Bandele is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Paris Shelton was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with 6 steals.
Chapel Hill's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-5. As for Tri-Cities, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-1.
Chapel Hill will be playing in front of their home fans against Midtown at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Midtown will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line. As for Tri-Cities, they will head out on the road to face off against Lithia Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lithia Springs is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
