The Mira Mesa Marauders will venture away from home to square off against the Canyon Hills Rattlers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Canyon Hills took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Mira Mesa, who comes in off a win.
Mira Mesa took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Coronado 3-2.
If you add up the scores from across all five sets (110-106) Mira Mesa actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-24, 20-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-12.

Mira Mesa's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ejaykeoni Lumanlan, who had 14 digs and two aces, and Nathan Montemayor, who had 25 assists and three digs. Lumanlan is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 11 or more in each of the last five games he's played. Derek Kanuha also deserves some recognition as he had his first digs of the season.
They weren't the only good server: Mira Mesa was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Canyon Hills' good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 3-1 to Mission Bay.
The final score came out to 25-20, 20-25, 25-12, 25-14.
Mira Mesa's record is now 8-9. As for Canyon Hills, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
Mira Mesa couldn't quite get it done against Canyon Hills in their previous meeting back in May of 2021 as they fell 3-1. Can Mira Mesa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
