Basketball Recap: Mylie Sipe's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lewis Cass over Wabash

Lewis Cass has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 47-44 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wabash Apaches. The Kings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Apaches apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Lewis Cass lost on Wednesday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Mylie Sipe, who went 7 for 13 on her way to 18 points and six rebounds. Those 18 points gave Sipe a new career-high. Anna Hedrick was another key player, going 5 of 8 en route to 11 points and five boards.

Wabash's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brookelyn Buzzard, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 19 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Anna Daughtry, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Lewis Cass' defeat dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Wabash, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

Lewis Cass and Wabash should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. Lewis Cass will square off against Southwood at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday up 167 places (119 vs. 286). Meanwhile, Wabash (ranked 88th) will meet Northwestern (ranked 265th) at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
