If the Evangel Christian Lightning were feeling good off their 47-23 takedown of the Southern Christian Patriots last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Evangel Christian had to suffer through a rough 90-31 loss at the hands of Edgewood Academy. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Evangel Christian in their matchups with Edgewood Academy: they've now lost six in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Evangel Christian lost on Thursday, one person who can't be blamed is Hannah Benson. Despite the final result, she scored nine points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Edgewood Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lexie Smith, who scored 23 points along with six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Lindsey Brown, who scored 23 points along with eight assists and five rebounds.
Evangel Christian's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-5. As for Edgewood Academy, they pushed their record up to 22-3 with that win, which was their 22nd straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evangel Christian will challenge Tuscaloosa Home Educators at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tuscaloosa Home Educators is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. Edgewood Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Evangel Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Evangel Christian Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 348th, while Edgewood Academy is ranked 54th).
