D2 District 5 (8 Man) recap Sept. 26, 2012
Spalding Academy was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in D2 District 5 (8 Man). Earlier in the week, the Knights triumphed over Pleasanton 87-0.
Giltner extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Heartland Lutheran, 78-18. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Giltner's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jake Findley threw for 300 and nine touchdowns and Ryan Kleier had 119 yards receiving. On the ground Zak Lyon chipped in 65 yards. Dustin Hastings helped Giltner's passing attack out by catching four balls for 104 yards.
Giltner's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Hornets feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Findley has thrown for 1207 yards and 19 touchdowns this season, while Kyle Hawthorne has 24 catches for 445 yards. Garrett Poppen leads the league in rushing with 164 yards.
A big matchup in D2 District 5 (8 Man) this week will be when Jeff Ashby's team takes on Fullerton. The Hornets are in first place, while the Warriors are in third place.
Spalding Academy took down the Bulldogs 87-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
