Gregory-Portland was led to victory by Trevor Jones and Shawn Williams. Jones scored 26 points along with seven assists, while Williams dropped a double-double on 33 points and 11 rebounds. The game was Williams' 23rd in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Russell Escamilla, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Gregory-Portland's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 85.0 points per game. As for Ray, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gregory-Portland will challenge Corpus Christi Moody at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Corpus Christi Moody has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 2. Ray will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Victoria East at 6:30 p.m. on January 12th.
