Softball Recap: North Central Makes It Three in a Row on the Road

North Central got themselves on the board against Cheraw on Friday, but Cheraw never followed suit. They came out on top against the Braves by a score of 5-0. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Braves: they've now won three in a row.

Not much got past Mackenzie Melton, who gave up just two hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Cheraw off the board. Melton has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, North Central's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Carleigh Wallace, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Peyton Sims also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

North Central's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cheraw, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Central will face off against Dreher at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. North Central's pitchers better be ready for this one: Dreher has averaged an impressive 11 runs per game this season. As for Cheraw, they will square off against Buford at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Buford has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.2 runs per game on average), something Cheraw will no doubt try to take advantage of.
