The New Trier Trevians are taking a road trip to take on the Libertyville Wildcats at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
New Trier lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Deerfield, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's game. The Trevians were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Warriors on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Greg Campitelli tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.
At the plate, New Trier got a massive performance out of Trey Meyers, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Zach Perchik also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
New Trier was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .524. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Libertyville won against Lake Forest on Monday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Wildcats blew past the Scouts 11-2. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Scouts recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Chase Lockwood made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cole Lockwood was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Quinn Schambow was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
New Trier has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-7-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Libertyville, they pushed their record up to 26-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. New Trier hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Libertyville struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
New Trier skirted past Libertyville 2-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trevians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
