Madison Coonce was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Riverton Parke let Ashlyn Brenton and Haylee Mathas run wild. Brenton went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Mathas went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Brenton has posted since back in May of 2024. Lizzy Leitgabel was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Riverton Parke was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Southmont and Crawfordsville have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Wednesday. The Mounties were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Athenians.
Ella Barry made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mallory Mason was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Anna Stokes, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Southmont's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Riverton Parke, their victory bumped their record up to 13-2.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Riverton Parke hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .421. However, it's not like Southmont struggles in that department as they've averaged .395. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
