The Townsend Harris Hawks came tearing into Friday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 78-72 W over Luther. Given Townsend Harris' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 182nd, while Luther is ranked 439th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tristan Elcock, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. The match was Elcock's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lenny Cruz, who scored 18 points along with six assists and four steals.
Townsend Harris' victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Luther, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Townsend Harris will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Energy Tech at 5:00 p.m. on January 3rd. Luther won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Renaissance at 2:45 p.m. on December 30, 2023. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
