The Oakmont Vikings will venture away from home to challenge the Colfax Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
If Oakmont beats Colfax with 12 runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Vikings put the hurt on Lincoln with a sharp 12-4 victory on Thursday. The win was familiar territory for the Vikings, who have now won four games in a row.
Chloe Gomes made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Oakmont let Maria Gonzales and Addison Turner run wild. Gonzales went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Turner went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Gonzales is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lila Hale, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Oakmont hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Colfax gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Mira Loma 15-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Falcons.
Delilah Mitchener was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Mitchener was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
In other batting news, Colfax got a massive performance out of Kalli Amaral, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Savannah Hostler was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Oakmont's record is now 14-6. As for Colfax, their record now sits at 7-9.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Oakmont hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .391. However, it's not like Colfax struggles in that department as they've averaged .353. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Oakmont skirted past Colfax 7-6 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
