The Wausa Vikings came into Monday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 37-28 win over Winside on Monday. The victory was just what Wausa needed coming off of a 40-17 defeat in their prior matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wausa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Taylor Dawson, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sienna West, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Despite the defeat, Winside saw an underclassman step up: Ellie Topp dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Topp has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played.
Wausa's win bumped their record up to 5-16. As for Winside, their defeat was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-18.
Wausa won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Wynot at 6:00 p.m. on February 13th. Wynot will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Wausa surely won't give up without a fight. Winside does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
