East Chapel Hill posted their closest victory yet this season on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 54-51 victory over Cedar Ridge. The victory made it back-to-back wins for East Chapel Hill.
Abigail Stone continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 28 points along with seven steals. That makes it ten consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of East Chapel Hill's points. Another player making a difference was Zaiah Freeman, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Chapel Hill waltzed into their match on Tuesday with five straight wins but they left with six. They came out on top against Hillside by a score of 51-42. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 13 more assists than your opponent, as Chapel Hill did.
Laynie Smith was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 26 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Beale, who scored eight points along with three steals and two blocks.
East Chapel Hill's win bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Chapel Hill, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: East Chapel Hill have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Chapel Hill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
East Chapel Hill was dealt a bruising 55-22 defeat at the hands of Chapel Hill when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can East Chapel Hill avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
