The Hampton Hawks won the last time they faced the Harvard Cardinals, and things went their way on Saturday too. Hampton took down Harvard 55-39. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, as Hampton did.
Hampton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brayden Dose led the charge by scoring 18 points along with six rebounds. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Kyler Luebbe, who scored 17 points.
Harvard's loss came despite strong showings from Cody Fishler and Ethyn Whetstine-jones. Fishler dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds, while Whetstine-jones scored 13 points. Fishler scored a full 33.3% of Harvard's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Hampton's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Harvard, their defeat was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hampton and High Plains will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 4th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Harvard, they will head out on the road to face off against Red Cloud at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Red Cloud is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
