The Patriot Pioneers waltzed into their match on Wednesday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Hayfield and snuck past 50-48. For Patriot, this counts as revenge for the 52-41 defeat the Hawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Hayfield lost, one person who can't be blamed is Parker Cage. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Andy Ramirez, who scored nine points.
Patriot's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-4. As for Hayfield, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Patriot will take on the Yellowjackets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Osbourn Park will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 424th, while the Pioneers are ranked 38th). As for Hayfield, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m.
