Basketball Recap: Columbia's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Columbia entered their tilt with West Marion on Saturday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the West Marion Trojans, sneaking past 60-58. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since November 19th.

Columbia got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tra Lewis out in front who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Lewis has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Avyon Lewis, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 18 rebounds.

Columbia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups.

Columbia's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for West Marion, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Columbia will head out on the road to challenge Amite County at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Columbia's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games. As for West Marion, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on St. Stanislaus at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
