Baseball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Orcas Island's Winning Streak

Orcas Island dropped their record down to 7-10 on Saturday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 18-1 to the Granite Falls Tigers. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Vikings couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Granite Falls, the win got them back to even at 10-10. They haven't had any issues with Orcas Island recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

For Granite Falls' part, Kaden Sturm made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Sturm was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Drake Smith was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Granite Falls' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Carson Brooks, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Looking ahead, Orcas Island will be playing in front of their home fans against South Whidbey at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Granite Falls does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
