Having just played yesterday, the Lawrence County Red Devils will get right back to it and host the Haleyville Lions at 6:00 p.m. on December 22nd. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with six consecutive losses for Lawrence County and four for Haleyville.
Lawrence County's 16-8 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell to Central 44-39.
Lawrence County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaala Hawkins, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, and Ava Boyll who scored 13 points. Hawkins scored a full 43.6% of Lawrence County's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Haleyville, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 54-37 loss to Brooks on Thursday. Haleyville has struggled against Brooks recently, as their game on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Lawrence County bumped their record down to 2-10 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Haleyville, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Lawrence County against Haleyville in their previous matchup back in January of 2020 as the team secured a 56-29 win. With Lawrence County ahead 39-9 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
