The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles will head out to face off against the Salem Hills Skyhawks at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Maple Mountain is coming into the game hot, having won their last ten games.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Maple Mountain nor Timpview made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Golden Eagles put the hurt on the Thunderbirds with a sharp 16-5 victory. The Golden Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.
Kavyn Carter looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cy Chrisman was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Reece Johnson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs.
Maple Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Salem Hills was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 9-5 win over Cedar Valley. The Skyhawks haven't had any issues with the Aviators recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Salem Hills got a big performance out of Kaleb DeGraffenried, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. DeGraffenried has become a key player for the Skyhawks: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-13 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Guss Johnson, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Salem Hills' record is now 8-13. As for Maple Mountain, they pushed their record up to 20-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.
Maple Mountain skirted past Salem Hills 6-5 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Golden Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Skyhawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
