The Lake Marion Gators's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight defeat. They took a 65-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Calhoun County.
Despite the defeat, Lake Marion saw an underclassman step up: Breion Shivers scored 15 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Smith, who scored six points.
Leading Calhoun County to victory were Theron Cokley and Jayden Wallace. Cokley scored 13 points, while Wallace scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cokley has scored all season. Aaron Fredrick was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Lake Marion's defeat dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Calhoun County, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Marion will take on the Landsharks at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oceanside Collegiate Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 457 points over their last six games. As for Calhoun County, they will be playing at home against the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in South Carolina (Hunter-Kinard-Tyler is ranked 169th, while the Saints are ranked 160th).
