Centennial (Peoria, Ariz.) put up 14 points in the fourth quarter in Saturday's game to seal their 34-7 victory over
Deer Valley (Glendale, Ariz.).
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Devon Palomino to
Dustin Griswold in the second quarter, the Coyotes were up 14-6 at the half.
Centennial expanded its lead to 15 points entering the fourth quarter. CHS's lone score in the quarter came on a rushing touchdown.
The loss snapped Deer Valley's four-game winning streak.
Deer Valley's lone touchdown came on a 5-yard pass from Palomino to Griswold in the second quarter.
The Skyhawks came in allowing just 10.6 points per game this season. Deer Valley struggled against Centennial's offense, which entered the game scoring 32.6 points per game. Coming into the game the Coyotes had allowed 21.8 points per game this year. A defensively strong Centennial kept DV well below the 34.2 points it had been averaging per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 55-0 win for CHS.
The loss comes after Deer Valley defeated Apollo 27-6 last week.
