The Laurel Golden Tornadoes scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Gautier 66-10 at home. Considering Laurel has won four contests by more than 30 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Laurel found their leader in underclassman Kayllis Walker, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. The contest was Walker's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Takiyah Thames, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
The win (which was Laurel's third in a row) raised their record to 8-3. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 48.67 points. As for Gautier, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.
Laurel will be home for the holidays to greet Quitman at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gautier won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Poplarville at 6:00 p.m. on December 16th. Poplarville is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
