The Brevard Blue Devils had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.1 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They breezed by Polk County at home to the tune of 49-21. Considering Brevard has won seven contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Brevard found their leader in underclassman Benjamin Kessinger, who threw for 133 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Brevard also got a significant boost from Corey Matthews, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 89 yards.
Another reason for the win was Brevard's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Polk County's QB won't forget Judson Weaver anytime soon given Weaver sacked him five times.
Polk County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Keaundrae Green, who picked up 68 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 34 yards and a touchdown on only three passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Antonio Simpson, who picked up 125 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Brevard's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.0 points per game. As for Polk County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.
Brevard has the luxury of staying home another week and will welcome Trinity at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Trinity will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 244th, while Brevard is ranked 105th). As for Polk County, they will head out on the road to face off against Murphy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
