Basketball Recap: Nikayle Hodge's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Westminster Catawba Christian over Forsyth Country Day

Westminster Catawba Christian saw some tournament action on Saturday. They took a 69-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Forsyth Country Day Furies. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 235th in South Carolina, while the Furies are ranked 11th in North Carolina).

Westminster Catawba Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nikayle Hodge, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 18 points. That's the most points Hodge has posted since back in November of 2023. MJ Littlejohn was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 10 points and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Westminster Catawba Christian and nudges their season record down to 7-9. As for Forsyth Country Day, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-3.

Westminster Catawba Christian will take on Cardinal Newman in a tournament on Monday. Cardinal Newman is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57 points per game this season. Forsyth Country Day and Linsly will round out the year against one another at at 11:40 a.m. on Monday. One thing working in Forsyth Country Day's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matchups.
