The Lakeview Bulldogs will be home for the holidays to greet the Maplewood Rockets at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lakeview is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
Last Monday, Lakeview was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 56-52 to McKinley.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Izzy Haines, who scored ten points along with three steals. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalyssa Werner, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact Maplewood proved on Monday. They blew past Harding, posting a 54-19 victory on the road. With that victory, Maplewood brought their scoring average up to 50.5 points per game.
Maplewood's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madyson Cikosh, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Lauran Krieg, who almost dropped a triple-double on 13 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals.
Lakeview's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Maplewood, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Lakeview have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 19.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Maplewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 25 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Lakeview against Maplewood when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 57-12 win. Will Lakeview repeat their success, or does Maplewood have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
