Calipatria has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Tri-City Christian Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Calipatria comes in on a streak of failing to score more than six points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Last Thursday, Calipatria had to suffer through a rough 53-6 loss at the hands of Holtville. While losing is never fun, Calipatria can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 961st, while Holtville is ranked 456th).
Meanwhile, after a string of eight wins, Tri-City Christian's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 38-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of Orange Glen. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Tri-City Christian's loss came about despite a quality game from Joel Valverde, who rushed for 23 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 197 yards and a touchdown.
Calipatria's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.5 points per game. As for Tri-City Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-2.
Calipatria was dealt a bruising 47-0 defeat at the hands of Tri-City Christian in their previous matchup back in August of 2019. Thankfully for Calipatria, Jason Mageo (who rushed for 184 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
