Union County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Branford, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Fighting Tigers fell just short of the Buccaneers by a score of 7-5 on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Fighting Tigers in their meetings with the Buccaneers: they've now lost nine in a row.
Addyson Hinds was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Dixie County walked away with it. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over the Bulldogs on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bears have posted since March 12th.
Raylyn Buchanan made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Skyliar Love, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hadlee Hines, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Dixie County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Union County's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Dixie County, their victory bumped their record up to 6-14.
Dixie County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Union County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. It's a different story for Dixie County, though, as they've only averaged .236. Will they be able to contain Union County's hitters?
