Mahwah (N.J.) and
Ramsey (N.J.) both tightened up defensively, but Mahwah managed to score enough to pull out the 14-0 victory.
The Thunderbirds scored on two passing touchdowns to secure the victory.
Mahwah was up 6-0 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Zach Herrmann to
Erik Wong in the second quarter.
MHS expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. The Thunderbirds scored two times in the third, including once on a Herrmann touchdown pass to Wong.
The result came as a big surprise as the Rams came in ranked No. 61 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for New Jersey, while Mahwah was ranked No. 150.
MHS's most effective player was Herrmann. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns.
The Thunderbirds got revenge for last year's 35-21 loss to Ramsey with the victory.
The loss comes after Ramsey defeated Ridgefield Park 14-7 last week. The loss snapped RHS's 3-game winning streak.
In a Big North - Patriot game next week Mahwah (3-1) takes on Morrow, and Ramsey (3-1) will go up against Dumont in a Big North - American game.
