Baseball Game Preview: Coalfield Yellow Jackets vs. Northview Academy Cougars

Coalfield is 7-1 against Northview Academy since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will host the Cougars at 5:30 p.m. Coalfield will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Coalfield's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Oliver Springs. The Yellow Jackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by six runs or more this season.

Jackson Treece was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Luke Treece was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Jorden Steinhauer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Coalfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Northview Academy came into Tuesday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Grainger 3-2.

Coalfield's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Northview Academy, their win bumped their record up to 4-17.

Coalfield beat Northview Academy 5-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Yellow Jackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
