The Crested Butte Titans pushed their score all the way to 59 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 60-59 to Cotopaxi. It was the first time this season that Crested Butte let down their fans at home.
When it comes to explaining why Crested Butte lost, one person who can't be blamed is Weston Miller. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Miller hasn't dropped below 16 points for nine straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Porter Donahue, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Leading Cotopaxi to victory were Joel Tezak and Terrance Evans. Tezak scored 16 points along with four blocks, while Evans scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Evans is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Kaiden Zeliznikar was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Crested Butte's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4. As for Cotopaxi, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Crested Butte will head out on the road to face off against Ridgway at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Crested Butte is facing Ridgway at the right time seeing as Ridgway is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Cotopaxi, they will head out on the road to take on La Veta at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cotopaxi is facing La Veta at the right time seeing as La Veta is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
