Baseball Recap: Grant County Wins Going Away Against Holmes

Grant County got themselves on the board against Holmes on Saturday, but Holmes never followed suit. They blew past the Bulldogs 12-0. The result was nothing new for the Braves, who have now won 11 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Braylon Rodriguez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on James Ely, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Trent Blake also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Grant County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Grant County's record is now 12-9. As for Holmes, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grant County will challenge Scott County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Holmes, they will venture away from home to square off against Villa Madonna at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
