Purcell Marian unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost  19-8 to the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds on Monday. The Cavaliers were not able to make up for their  defeat to the Thoroughbreds from their previous meeting  back in April of 2022.
  Zavier Wright made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and  scored two  runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of  Mark Seller, who  scored two  runs and  stole a base while  getting on base  in two of his three plate appearances.

 Looking ahead, Purcell Marian will look to defend their home field  on Saturday against Clark Montessori  at 11:00  a.m. As for Newport Central Catholic, they will head out on the road to  take on  Holy Cross  at 6:00  p.m.  on Wednesday.
