Basketball Recap: Saint John Paul the Great Catholic Falls Despite Big Games from Nina Velandria and Azel Tayamen

Saint John Paul the Great Catholic lost against Flint Hill back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Saint John Paul the Great Catholic Wolves took a 62-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Flint Hill Huskies. The Wolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Azel Tayamen and Nina Velandria certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Tayamen went 6 of 9 en route to 17 points, while Velandria went 6 for 14 on her way to 17 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Tayamen a new career-high in points.

Saint John Paul the Great Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Flint Hill, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-5.

Saint John Paul the Great Catholic has already played their next game (against Saint Gertrude), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Flint Hill will head out on the road to square off against Episcopal at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
