The Fullerton Warriors were the 69-49 winner over the Central Valley Cougars when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Fullerton took a 45-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Central Valley on Saturday. Fullerton has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Fullerton saw an underclassman step up: Kane Wetovick scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. That was a full 47.4% of Fullerton's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Terrick Gonsior, who scored seven points.
Central Valley was led to victory by Zaden Wolf and Boston Wood. Wolf scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and six assists, while Wood scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Wood pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tae Soto, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Fullerton's loss was their eighth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-9. As for Central Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fullerton will take on Elba at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Elba comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Central Valley, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Elgin/Pope John at 7:45 p.m. on January 23rd.
