Baseball Recap: Flatirons Academy Starts Season with Victory at Home

Flatirons Academy gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 13-3 margin over the Evangel Christian Academy Eagles. The Bison haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Flatirons Academy let Caleb Doughty and Conner Odell run wild. Doughty went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run, while Odell went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave Doughty a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Everson Nelson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Flatirons Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Flatirons Academy will face off against Akron at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Evangel Christian Academy, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Elbert at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. This will be Evangel Christian Academy's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
