4A Region 8 recap October 8, 2013
Warren was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Star City. The Lumberjacks came in at 17 in the state poll after placing at number 32 last week.
Warren's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Drake Jones threw for 283 and 4 touchdowns and Darveon Brown had 92 yards receiving. On the ground Jones contributed 88 yards. Kaleel Thomas helped Warren's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 76 yards.
Jones put up the best numbers through the air as the Lumberjacks topped the Bulldogs. Jones' favorite target this week was Brown, who caught 6 passes for 92 yards.
Warren's Jones and Brown have formed a dream team this season, leading 4A Region 8 in both passing and receiving yards. Jones has thrown for 743 yards this season, while Brown, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 22 catches for 380 yards. Charles Dabner from DeWitt leads the league in rushing with 246 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Hamburg takes on second place Star City.
Crossett made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,428 from 9,001. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 24-16 victory over Dumas last week.
