The Burges Mustangs will challenge the Canutillo Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Burges turned things around against Jefferson on Tuesday. They blew past the Silver Foxes 13-1. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Annaliese Avina spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Burges got a massive performance out of Yoselin Chavira, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Chavira has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Valeria Sanchez, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Burges kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Canutillo, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Everything went their way against Andress on Tuesday as they made off with a 12-2 victory. Canutillo hasn't had any issues with Andress recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Izzy Salazar and Abby Lujan did most of the damage at the plate: Salazar went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Lujan went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Quezada, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Burges picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 12-10. As for Canutillo, their win bumped their record up to 5-18.
Burges might still be hurting after the 13-7 defeat they got from Canutillo when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
