The Madison Dragons's game last Monday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They walked away with a 55-44 victory over Lyons-Decatur Northeast. That's another feather in the cap for Madison, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Madison can attribute much of their success to Jose Velez, who scored 20 points along with four steals and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Velez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Sanchez, who scored 19 points along with three steals.
Despite the defeat, Lyons-Decatur Northeast saw an underclassman step up: Kaden Knaak dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Hegge, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Madison's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Lyons-Decatur Northeast, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.
Madison will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Neligh-Oakdale at 7:45 p.m. on February 5th. As for Lyons-Decatur Northeast, they will take on Oakland-Craig at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
