Rickards hasn't had much luck against Florida State University High School recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Seminoles at 6:00 p.m. Rickards will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Rickards made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Godby, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Raiders were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Cougars on Saturday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Raiders as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Troy Williams made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Rickards got a massive performance out of Jakobi Winfrey, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Manny Hernandez, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double.
Rickards was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Florida State University High School came up short against Wakulla on Thursday and fell 4-1. The Seminoles haven't had much luck with the War Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Jaden White was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February.
At the plate, Florida State University High School saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Chason, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
Florida State University High School's defeat dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Rickards, their record is now 6-14.
Rickards came out on top in a nail-biter against Florida State University High School in their previous matchup two weeks ago, sneaking past 16-15. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
