The Choctaw Yellowjackets waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 84-56 victory over Ponca City. Given Choctaw's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Ponca City is ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Ponca City still got an impressive performance from Tay Moore, who scored 30 points. That was a full 53.6% of Ponca City's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Zadyn Stoll, who scored seven points.
Choctaw pushed their record up to 16-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for Ponca City, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-18 record this season.
Choctaw has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Jenks at 8:00 p.m. on February 13th. Choctaw has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Ponca City, they will head out on the road to challenge Southmoore at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Ponca City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
