Even though the Winston-Salem Christian Lions scored an imposing 61 points on Friday, the Victory Christian Center Kings still came out on top. Victory Christian Center snuck past Winston-Salem Christian with a 67-61 win. Given Victory Christian Center's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Winston-Salem Christian is ranked 233rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Victory Christian Center's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Justyn Whitfield, who scored 18 points. The contest was Whitfield's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abubakar Cham, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Victory Christian Center's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Winston-Salem Christian, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Victory Christian Center won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Charlotte Country Day School at 2:30 p.m. on December 9th. Charlotte Country Day School knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matchups -- so hopefully Victory Christian Center likes a good challenge. Winston-Salem Christian is on the road again on Monday and play against Carlisle at 7:00 p.m. on December 11th. Carlisle is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 67.4 points per game.
